  • Brush: APShaveCo 24mm Tuxedo

  • Razor: GEM MMOC - 1st Gen

  • Blade: Personna GEM Stainless (1)

  • Lather: Ariana and Evans - Peach & Cognac

  • Post Shave: MacDuff’s Soap Co. - Viticulture - Splash

First time participating in AA and I’m looking forward to it! I wanted to try it last year, but I was in peak software collecting mode and couldn’t bear to commit to one scent. Now I’m older and wiser and also in the middle of a giant move, so only having one set unpacked works great! I also love the idea of getting to know the products I use a little better throughout the month.

The Software: I chose this soap because I want it gone. Smells nice, bad vibes in the den, have way too many soaps that I love more. Viticulture is a great scent that goes well with P&C. Macduffs makes a great splash, but this is one I am okay putting a dent in (or even killing).

The Hardware: I have a few GEMs that I have picked up at antique stores, but never managed to find a MMOC. u/OnionMiasma was kind enough to host a PIF that allowed me to obtain this beautiful 1st gen MMOC (along with a brand new Personna GEM stainless blade), and I have been eager to use it ever since.

The Shave: Okay. I was nervous. Out of the GEMs I have tried before, a couple of them were too aggressive for me, and to find out that the MMOC is reportedly even more so made me question my sanity in trying this challenge.

After lathering for longer than unusual in hopes that I would somehow level up the slickness for the best hope of not stopping by the ER this morning, I began to gingerly butter the toast.

Honestly? It was great. I’m not sure if I was expecting tye MMOC to come alive and start eating me, but I realized quickly that having 911 on speed dial likely wasn’t necessary. Definitely the most blade feel I have ever felt, but very smooth and more forgiving than I was expecting. Definitely deserves respect and will take a while to dial it in well, however. Plus, I have to prepare for the blade to dull and make things extra interesting. It’s only day one, I’m not sure I’m safe yet.

Really excited to be a part of this challenge!
