Don't know why the soap got dusty...

Hey all, sorry for the super late entry... I did shave, but yesterday I had to do crazy tavels all around my country and there were some events that really did anger me... One of them being the fact, that I lost the video I made, I was shooting a video of taking off a month long beard and everything was going well, but as soon as I stopped the video, there was no video saved on the device, which really did anger me, because I was looking forward to making a video of it and sharing it with the Bulgarian group and here... Also who knows when I'll have the chanve(patience) to wait for a whole month and not shave so that I can redo that... Really sad and bummed out....

Anyways it was amazing to get back in the game, so to say. I have 20 shaves on this blade and was a bit afraid that it might not go to 50(when the challenge ends) but after I stropped it, it was as sharp as ever. So I think there would no problem going the distance.

Great feeling of the blade, I chose this blade because based on the feeling that I have from all my blades, I figured out that this one was the softest and most comfortable that would be able to give me smooth enough shaves and be kindto my skin on this 31 day challenge, which I've never done to be fair, the longest I've done with a straight is around 14-15 days, and different ones, so this will definitely be a challenge.

The main thins that I think is going to be a challenge is the RawHoggin part. I have almost zero experience with boars, and I quickly found out that making a lather with Chiseled Face and a boar brush is definitely a different experience than the one I have had with my synthethics, So for the next 30 days I will have to adjust my lathering technique, also I forgot to mentions, I have maybe around 10 face lathers during my whole lifetime, soooo yeah, that kind of sucks in terms of my experience.

I chose this Zenith brush, one because I knew Zenith boars are good, two because it was at a good price 10$, and three, because when putting the Zenith boars on my hand, testing how prickly they feel on the hand, this one was the softest and also had the weakest backbone of them all, so I thought it would perfect for face lathering. Indeed I was not disappointed, because after soaking it for 3-4 minutes it was very soft. The pig STANK was almost not noticeable if there at all. Soooo very happy to have a nice and soft brush to start with, I did not do any pre-break stuff as required. Also I opened it in the video, so I did not make a photo, aaaaaand yeah, no video and no photo of opening the boar. In general I am not in it for the prizes, so if I get disqualified, that's fine, but I will use the boar brush anyway for the whole month.

Right so today I made it in time, even a video is being uploaded, in English, just for reddit :D Even though it says that it'll upload for 1 and a half hours, which is crazy...

Anyways, what happened in today's shave.

​

The daily shaving of my stubble is definitely different than the once in a week or a month, no idea why when my beard is long it's soft and easy to shave, when it's daily it's barbed wire. I have to adjust definitely for future shaves, because if I continue like this I might need to stop in about 4-5 days. I had irritation of around 3/10 on my face which is not that good, but I will compensate it tomorrow and will be careful so that it doesn't get worse.

​

About the brush.. I know I've entered a challenge where you have to explain very unabridgedely how the breaking in of the boar is going, but that might be very difficult because the one I have chosen is already super soft, if it actually gets softer I will be super impressed. Colour me pink and call me Tinkerbell. But time will tell, I can not see any difference between the two shaves. It's still very difficult to make a decent lather even when using more soap, but I see improvement, I managed to make 2 passes, just barely, but maybe tomorrow I'll be able to have lather for 3 passes on so on, maybe on day 31 I'll have lather for 31 passes, who knows :D

As for the music challenge

​

This is one of my most favorite pieces for piano, and it's played very beautifully. Recently I'm in a rut and don't feel the greatest so I'm kind of listening to pieces that are of the melancholy mannerisms and sounds! I will see how it goes for the next few days, there might be a sudden change of styles :D

So today was my birthday and it was super hectic, I had to leave from one end of the country to the other end(small country) have an oil change and other stuff, then celebrate with my parents and after that I could shave.

To summarize, boar is getting even softer and the ends are splitting. Stag is amazing and I love the smell. I'm still having trouble with the lather but am getting better I know now WHO the culprit is(water). Yesterday while taking pictures I managed to sing the cutting edge of the straight but it was very soft so the dent is on an microscopic level. After yesterday and today I can confirm that it is still performing well and that I will be able to finish this month. The biggest problem is finding time to make a post here, because my summers are hectic, I have 2 months of paid leave and I'm all over the place/country sooo it's hard😂

FINALLY!!! I have time to write a normal SOTD post. I was kind of annoyed how the last few posts went.

So good news, I'm 31 now. Bad news. While making the photos from yesterday and today the razor managed to slip and hit the cutting edge on the cap of the aftershaves must've been the gravitational ring pull of the awesomeness of Stag. Thankfully it is a very micro chip and it doesn't affect the shave quality itself.

I did pay with some blood for these pictures, the palace where I want from the 1st to the 3rd had a nice big sequoia forest and I had an awesome idea of how to make a picture. Sun was right everything was well, but I either forgot or didn't know the swarm of mosquitoes that attacked me, I was almost laying on the floor trying to take a picture and they were draining me or my blood, in the end I was left with 2 good pictures, the one from today I like more.

The brush. I was informed by u/EldrormR that since my pic didn't have the brush in it I wasn't eligible for the flair or prize, with which I was ok. There was just no way how to add the brush and I knew that it would get disqualified. I am saying all of this not to complain, just to compliment how awesome he is for telling me and staying true to the rules! Nevertheless I will finish my 31 days of shaves with it and see how it is in the end.

The brush itself is getting even more grungy and splitting well, but my lather problems are still there, that does not discourage me even one bit, by the end I will have mastered it, no doubt in my mind. Today I saw the post of u/J33PGUY13 and was so happy to hear what he had done, congrats on sharing the pig love my man.

In general I am a synth man. I know I will never use badgers unless someone gifts one to me(had one pifed it). I took on this challenge to see how well I will get along with a pig. For the most part it's nice, the face feel is good, but the lather that comes out in the end... Mmmm not what I'm looking for. I will try bowl lathering when all of this is over to see how well that goes.

So far I am enjoying this challenge with my favourite scent and catching up on my straight shaves.

Well even though the original is nice, this one carries a lot of melancholy with it, I found this song after some stuff with a girl and it makes me sad and happy at the same time. Day 6 and I made a mini break through. I decided some days ago to smush the soap scooped from the tub in the brush and then massage the bristles between my fingers until it got incorporated in the knot. I wasn't happy with the results, but today after starting out the usual way and finishing the lather on the second pass I decided to load again and to smush the soap between the top part of the knot, earlier I put it deep into the knot and didn't get a very good lather when face lathering. Today was the first day I got a decent result. Will repeat tomorrow and hopefully get an even better result.

Stag is amazing as always as a scent but I would love for it to last a bit longer, longevity is about 3-4 hours, I mean the cloud around you longevity, I'm sure it's still very potent on the along when up close.

Razor is sublime I'm happy I picked this one, very good and clean shaves with minimal irritation☺️

Day 7. A lazy review of things.

Lather is muuuch better with the new method I found out from yesterday. Otherwise everything else is good, brush is soft, soap is awesome, razor gives me great shaves. Sorry for being lazy today, hopefully I'll have more inspiration tomorrow. Thing is I'm on vacation and I'm doing things the whole day and can't really sit down and have a good write up, also I'm on phone and really hate making posts on the phone. I hope you guys had a nice weekend and managed to relax, Monday is always shit but I hope it will be easy on those who have work.

Ran out of good pics so I was lazy today

Riiiiight. So today I was driving for the most part of the day, returning from a vacation spot. I had an evening shave, so to say. I overdid it depth wise(AGAIN), but damn am I smooth, this type of shave really puts an emphasis on the baby part...

​

Other than the quality of the shave, the quality of the lather. Today I managed to create 3 passes of lather, there was nothing left in the brush or at all for the 4th pass, BUT that's fine, in the beginning, there was barely two passes of lather. It seems that the water control is a bit off, because I'm dipping the tips of the brush in the glass that I am soaking it before the shave. But I will go back to my precision hydration, which is setting the faucet to drip and measure in water drops, that's what I usually do when making lather in a bowl with a synth, splay the knot a bit and let the water drops fall in the middle of the knot. I'll see how many it'll take me to make a lather tomorrow and if I can make it for 4 passes :D

God damn it....

Right... So I dropped my phone around 2 weeks ago and cracked the glass that protects the cameras. I had a guy in a shop remove the glass and as you can see by my photos for the first 6-7 days, everything was fine. Today I returned back home and went to the shop to get the new glass put in(I had a Slavic tuning to cover it in the meantime). When I got back home and tried to make a photo, there was no focus, AT ALL... I'll try and fix the issue after tomorrow, because I'll be on a one day trip for a shaving meet up with some friends on the other part of the country. Damn I'm so annoyed....

Shave, well it was good, not as deep, but no problems. Brush is doing well, can't say I'm feeling much difference since the past 2-3 shaves, but we'll see how it gets at the end. I'm in a crappy mood today anyways, other than the phone, so yeah, no quality content, no good photo, no nothing, haaa haaa double negative😅 I'll try and read up of today and yesterday's shaves, before going to bed, maybe my mood.will cheer up.

Today I went to two friends of mine over the Balkan, through the most annoying mountain passage that we have. 130 km for 2 and a half hours, and the passage is only 40-50km long..

Anyway it was a fun shave meetup, we talked about straights mostly, because one of the guys really got us hooked on straights around 1 year ago. We showed each other the new stuff that we acquired since the last time we met, which was last September.

I actually shaved near the top of the pass and even decided to make a video, similar to the truck stop I made during the lather games😅 it was a mediocre shave in terms of quality but very fun😁😁

Since yesterday's shave wasn't that deep I had more growth than usual. For some reason I decided to go deep, so I got my ulltra BBS, I'll see what I'll be left with for tomorrow🤣

It seems that boar brushes just gobble up soap, not a big fan of that, since I did around 5 passes with touch ups I had to add soap 2 times... The softness is great, the feeling on the skin is great, but the soap usage is a big turn off for me, also it doesn't get me quite that lather that I would like, but I still have 20 days to get even better at it😁

Other than that, nothing much, good shaves great feeling face and the smell is a killer🥰

EDIT: I figured out today why I'm doing so well at posting and why it's hard for me. I have no time for the interned during summer, it's just traveling, meeting up with friends and vacation, and at the end of the day I'm tired... Sooo yeah, I'm bad with the internet during the summer, actually not long ago 3-4 years, I still didn't have a smartphone so I went almost a whole month without internet, AND IT WAS AWESOMEEEE!!

After almost 1000km in the span of 40 hours I got back home today. Tomorrow I will share some photos from the places I went, there were 2 caves and a place which is similar to the Greece attraction called Meteora, rock formations above the city, very nice place, I've been there before but went with some friends that have never been before.

It seems I am following a pattern where I do an ultra BBS, and afterwards I do 2 DFS+ shaves where I am careful not to destroy my skin, I'll also write something about the brush tomorrow, I also have not had a chance to read up on the posts, I will do that tomorrow, can't wait to find some awesome things to read and see how things are going for everyone!

SIDENOTE: Just found out that I have been labeling my razor very wrong.... Instead of a Filarmonica 14 Double temple, I was writing Sub Cero, because I copied a lather games post for the template and fucked up on the process... Sorry... Another BBS shave, but I didn't go deep this time. The brush is getting really soft and I'm having no problems lathering on the face, I forget who posted that on the second day when he lathered on his face the brush was still very stiff and cut open all his wounds from the previous day using the MMOC. My only problem with the brush is that I can't make lather for more than 3 passes... I'm wondering if bowl altering will fix that but it's much better than when starting this month.

The razor is sublime, can't complain about it. Today I was annoyed at my Parker Adjustable injector, I decided to disassemble it, and it took me almost 1 hour to put it back together... And it's just 3 metal pieces... Pain in the ass, folks, don't disassemble an injector🤣

I really do suck at making photos during the evening, but this one is probably my best so far😅

Kind of a boring shave today, nothing noteworthy, just going through the motions, one thing that really helps is the smell of THE STAG you just don't get tired of it☺️

Other than that I was bad at the internet thing today, went to the autoshop, got my rim straightened and an alignment, and since the guys at the service are super cool I stayed there 2-3 hours shooting the breeze and having smokes, I usually stay after they're done working on my car, and you can roam around the shop and chat with the mechanics, at least I can, they let me and it's a grand ol' ball!

Afterwards I went to the post to check on the Timeless Ti 0.95 how it's trucking on and when it might arrive, some 10 more days I think. Then I got back home, did some house work, had a shower and shave and after that went to a birthday party. Not much time in between for the internet thing.

FINALLY!!! Today was the first day that I managed to get lather for my 4th pass, and not having to add soap mid shave... I think the fault was that since I like a big lather and I plater everything on the first pass and afterwards nothing is left, today I rationed my lather and had some left for the 4th pass, albeit not the best lather or a lot, but I had some left nonetheless!

Past the half-point since yesterday, the brush has stopped shedding hair and I think is as soft as can be, I basically don't feel it as a pig brush anymore, I have no idea if it'll become even softer, time will tell. But it'll be good to have a broken in boar brush, because I don't plan buying another one, also I'm almost sure that I ain't a boar brush fan, I appreciate the boar brush and it definitely has its own character, but it isn't good enough to make me cheat on my synth brushes and switch fully to boar. One thing though is something that just dawned upon me, how will bowl lathering feel after a whole month of face scrubs😅 because face scrubs is actually nice, a good massage!

If it were anything else than midnight stag, I would've quit already... I can just now appreciate how tough you guys with the unscented challenge are... Maybe a full month of Tres Matres would have been the other scent that could make me keep on trucking!

I didn't expect that this challenge would be harder to post than the LG... And I can't even find time for a nice photo.

The last few days have been really good shaves with little to no irritation, which I always enjoy. The brush is soft and great for face lathering, but I can't wait to get back to my new OUMO brush😁 not much to add, last night I fell asleep 3 times before I could actually do the post...

Today's shave was a quick one, and very unpleasant for that fact... I hate shaving wuixlyz I enjoy taking my time even if it means going and hour. But those were the circumstances. Not much to add to the hardware or software.

Man things are getting really boring in terms of what to say. Dont get me wrong, I'm shaving which is awesome and a win, also I'm using a favourite scent. The shaves are good and I am enjoying them for the most part. I say for the most because I would like to change things up a bit, but just 10 more days and I'll be able to do that.

Other than the wish for change, I'm happy shaving with my Filarmonica, great quality and not much irritation.

I'm doing fine, another good shave feeling the nice scrub of the brush and the great edge of the blade! Since 2-3 days I'm actively sniffing my other soaps from nostalgia 😅 also I can't wait for the timeless which should arrive by Friday, then it'll be really difficult until the 31😅

Nothing to add for now. Wait there is something, I did realize I was right, that if you are feeling an ingrown hair forming, the best way to battle it is to shave again, one of the reasons I didn't get 1 ingrown during June and also this month. Whereas if I don't shave daily I get around 1-2 a month.

Today's shave was very meh, nothing special, nothing bad, basically counting the days left. One of the reasons is because THIS arrived today! So happy, I'm glad I got the polished version, I cannot yet say how it shaves(that will happen in September) but it is a veeeery beautiful razor and looks wise it holds up to my expectations. It is a light razor 75.6 grams, which I enjoy, I say light, but the bronze or SS models are twice as heavy, so yeah, I like light razors.

Other than that I got sad today, because I found out that I won't have a Gearhead soap for me.. Bear with me. So I ordered 12 and they came, I sent 5 of them through courier, 3 I gave personally, took one and I have 3 more to give to people personally, so far so good, right? Wrong!!! I am going to the capital for work in about a couple of days and was looking at the soaps, and something was off in my mind, subconsciously that is.... Until it hit me. There were 2 soaps in the box, and I had to give off 3. I checked everything twice, to see who was naughty or nice, and everything came out clean. I turned over the whole room and found nothing, the only possibility is that I lost one when I went on the courier round.... So now I will give mine to the third person and be left with nothing... Quite annoyed, but I guess that's life. One could say "well why don't you order one", and I will reply, cause I don't have any money atm and I'm in a tough spot, if there is any left in stock on the site in about 3 months, I will order some, if not, I guess that's life. So yeah, bummed out today, but I always repeat to myself, there are people that have real life problems, be thankful that you are healthy and your family is healthy, everything else is just minor stuff. I will help with organizing Geartober, but will not participate, the whole thing is quite ironic :D

Shave was great today, had an ultra BBS, but did cut myself kind of bad, but skin heals so I don't care really, also it's with a straigh and those cute are always way cleaner and heal much faster.

Shave was very interesting, at least for me. Currently trying to find a new flat to move into because they moved me to the other block of the dormitory and this new room sucks ASS it's finally time to fine a one or two bedroom apartment, but it's crazy, with all of the fake ads etc... I have until the end of September to find one so it's no big deal. Can't wait for tomorrow to end and have a small break from shaving, also I might even go and do a video outside somewhere. We'll see on that one.

Oh man I can't believe it's over. I was thinking at some point it would never end😅

Mainly because of my need to diversify the soap and aftershave. The straight razor was not that much of an issue for me, I liked that part. In the end I am very grateful that I took up this challenge and managed to complete it. In the end I have a very nice broken in boar brush that is super soft, I would love to try lathering it in a bowl because I'm sure I'll get better results, I kind of failed on the last shave, I had to reapply soap 2 more time since the initial soap injection into the brush, but hey it happens. I also made a video, and my idea was to see the progress with my lathering skills from day2 till day 31, but it seems I was better at it when I started🤣 of course I was shooting at a friend's house and there were other factors, but the fact is I failed. Will definitely try it with a bowl next time and will be sure to say how it went compared to the face method.

The process of braking in a new boar brush is quite a unique experience and I think only us shaving "hobbyists"(maniacs) can truly appreciate it. I have heard of speeding up the process of breaking in a boar, but if I ever get one more boar I will not break it in, any other way. It's too much fun, just to see the daily changes in softness and backbones prickliness, everything... That's one of the challenges I am most thankful for and happy that I was able to complete, even though maybe I didn't complete it administratively.

As for THE STAG, I definitely scratched that itch because for being my favourite smell I hadn't used it as much as I had wanted to, prior to this challenge. The scent kind of became like a second nature to me, I still love it but it did lose a bit of its magic with such frequent usage so a new soap to try out or just a different o e is most welcome after my 4-5 days break from shaving.

I am falling asleep as I type but will check the comments for this thread tomorrow with great interest, even if it's a bit of a back tracking.

Aaaaand also congrats to everyone else who completed their challenges especially the unscented guys, you are the real heroes to me 😅 As for my challenge I think only u/Marquis90 participated, if I am wrong please correct me, if not congrats to winning😅
